Balloon backdrops for first birthdays, eighteenth birthdays, First Communions and weddings
Author: Magdalena RabaWielki Dzień, a wedding decoration studio in the Tri-City
We will create a balloon backdrop for photographs at a first birthday, eighteenth birthday, First Communion, christening, wedding or company party. We can add numbers, a name or lettering, then deliver and assemble everything on site: in a flat in Zaspa, a venue in Rumia or a garden near Reda.
- Backdrop, numbers and lettering in your party colours
- Proposal and quote within 24 hours
- Travel costs quoted together with the backdrop
- Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia and all of Pomerania
Example balloon backdrops for different occasions
Each of these backdrops has a different base, colour scheme and wording. We adapt the size to your space and the numbers, name or date to your celebration.
First birthday backdrop
A backdrop with a large number 1 and your child's name, for photographs with the cake, grandparents and guests. We coordinate the colours with the cake, outfit or party theme.
- A circular hoop as the backdrop base
- An organic balloon garland in two or three colours
- A large foil number 1
- Your child's name in foil letters or on a sign
Best for: Parents celebrating their child's first birthday at home, in a garden or at a restaurant.

An evening backdrop where guests can take photographs from the first toast until the end of the party. It is best to choose colours and lettering together with the person celebrating.
- A plain panel in a bold colour behind the balloons
- A garland along one side and the top of the backdrop
- Foil numbers 1 and 8
- A name or short message on a sign
Best for: Birthday celebrants and parents organising an eighteenth birthday at a venue, in a hired hall or at home.
Ask about this set: Eighteenth birthday backdropFirst Communion or christening backdrop
A light, understated backdrop for family photographs after the church ceremony, with your child's name and the date. It suits both a restaurant room and a living room at home.
- Light-coloured fabric on a frame as the background
- A garland in white, cream and one gentle colour, such as sage or pale blue
- Your child's name and the date on a sign
- A smaller version that fits in a living room
Best for: Parents and godparents hosting guests after the ceremony at a restaurant or at home.
Ask about this set: First Communion or christening backdropWedding backdrop
A backdrop for photographs with guests, positioned by the entrance to the reception room or beside the dance floor, for example. The colours echo the table decorations, so the backdrop fits the rest of the wedding.
- A panel or fabric in the wedding's main colour
- An organic garland in several shades from one palette
- The couple's initials or wedding date on a sign
- A neon sign, such as “Miłość” (“Love”), as an extra
Best for: Couples who want a separate place for photographs with guests, away from the top table.

These sets are a starting point rather than a fixed price list: we tailor each one to your date, venue, colours and number of guests, and you can combine elements from different sets.
Ideas for a balloon backdrop
A number and name at your child's height
A one-year-old is usually photographed sitting on the floor or in a parent's arms, so it is worth placing the main features lower down. A number 1 and name at the child's height will appear in the frame with them, while the garland forms a backdrop above the whole family.
Black and gold for the evening
For an eighteenth birthday in a club or a dimly lit venue, a black background, gold numbers and a black, gold and white garland work well. If the birthday girl prefers something lighter, the same arrangement looks just as good in blush pink and gold.
Matt, shiny and confetti balloons
A backdrop does not need to use just one type of balloon. Matt pastel balloons, a few shiny ones and some clear balloons filled with confetti add depth to photographs, even when the whole palette contains only two colours.
The cake and backdrop in the same frame
Many party photographs are taken around the cake and while blowing out the candles. If the backdrop stands behind the cake table, it appears in all these photographs, and guests do not have to look for a separate photo spot.
A backdrop in your company colours
For an anniversary, company party or open day, we suggest a backdrop in your brand colours with a logo or slogan on a sign. Every photograph your guests take there will show your name.
Helium or a garland on a frame?
The balloon backdrop itself usually does not need helium. We attach air-filled balloons to a frame, hoop or panel. They keep their shape longer than helium balloons, so the backdrop stands up better to a long party. Helium is useful for extras: a foil number floating beside the backdrop or a few balloons by the gift table.
Indoors, conditions remain steady, so the backdrop can wait comfortably for guests. Outdoors is more challenging: latex becomes dull faster in full sun, balloons can burst in the heat, particularly dark ones, and wind pushes against the backdrop like a sail. For summer gardens and terraces, we therefore look for shade and shelter from the wind, weight the base and, if the forecast is uncertain, agree on a covered alternative with you from the start.
Choosing backdrop colours for the venue and photographs
It is worth choosing colours to suit the setting. A backdrop stands in front of a wall, curtains or a garden and needs to stand out: white and cream disappear against a white wall, navy and burgundy against dark wood, and sage against a green garden. Send us a photograph of the space and we will suggest shades that will show up well.
Two or three shades from one palette with a stronger accent, such as cream, peach and gold, tend to photograph best. Too many colours make a backdrop look busy, while very pale balloons in full sun or flash photography can merge into one patch. Consider outfits too: if the birthday girl wears a red dress, she will blend into a backdrop of red balloons.
What determines the price of a balloon backdrop?
The main factors are the size of the backdrop and its base: fabric, a panel or a hoop. Garland density also matters, because covering an entire backdrop with balloons takes much more material and work than a garland along one side. Extras such as foil numbers, a name or a neon sign also affect the price.
A garden backdrop also needs a different plan from an indoor one, because it needs shelter from sun and wind. Rather than a fixed price list, we therefore prepare a quote for your specific date and address.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a balloon backdrop cost?
We quote each backdrop individually, as the price depends on its size, base, garland density and extras such as numbers, lettering or a neon sign. Send us the date, location, occasion and approximate number of guests, and we will reply within 24 hours with a proposal and quote.
Is travel included in the price?
No, travel is charged separately. We set out from our studio in Gdańsk and include the travel cost in the proposal alongside the backdrop quote from the start, including for parties in Słupsk, Chojnice or Bytów.
Can a balloon backdrop be set up outdoors?
Yes. Outdoors, we suggest an air-filled balloon backdrop in a shaded spot sheltered from the wind. We also agree on a covered alternative with you straight away in case of rain.
Can the backdrop include a name or lettering?
Yes. A short name looks good in foil letters, while a longer message or date fits better on a sign. Send us the exact spelling and we will choose a letter size to suit the backdrop.
Will the backdrop fit in a flat?
Yes. For a flat, we suggest a smaller hoop or panel backdrop that we assemble on site. Send us a photograph of the room showing where you would like it, and we will choose a suitable size.
How far in advance should we order a backdrop?
Ideally, get in touch as soon as you know the date and venue. We can then check availability and have more time to refine the colours and lettering.
