Beach weddings: decorations for a seaside ceremony

Author: Magdalena RabaWielki Dzień, a wedding decoration studio in the Tri-City

We decorate beach weddings in the Tricity and along the Pomeranian coast. On the sand, we can set up a hoop, an arch with flowers or tulle, or a floral arrangement beside the place where you exchange vows. We add a lantern-lined aisle, flowers for the ceremony table and chairs or benches, and prepare your bouquet. A beach has its own conditions, so we design decorations to withstand wind and loose sand, look good in the light at your ceremony time and have a backup plan ready for rain.

  • Beaches in the Tricity, on the Hel Peninsula and along the coast
  • Beach installation and removal after the ceremony included
  • You can take the ceremony flowers with you
  • Proposal and quote within 24 hours

Beach wedding decorations: example sets

These sets range from exchanging vows with your closest loved ones to a ceremony with guests seated in rows and an indoor reception. Each follows the same principle: on the beach, we use nothing that cannot be properly weighted or tied down.

  • An intimate ceremony by the shore

For a small wedding where guests stand in a semicircle around you. We position the hoop facing the guests, with the sea visible through its centre, creating a photo backdrop without additional scenery.

    • A floral hoop with a weighted base
    • Battery-powered lanterns around the place where you exchange vows
    • A low arrangement for the ceremony table
    • A compact bridal bouquet that can cope with wind

Best for: Couples who need only their closest loved ones and the sea behind them.

  • A ceremony with seated guests

Guests sit in rows, and we decorate the aisle, the place where you exchange vows and their chairs or benches. Lanterns mark the route from the beach entrance to the hoop.

    • A hoop with fabric and flowers on a weighted base
    • A lantern-lined aisle between the guest rows
    • Flowers beside chairs or benches along the aisle
    • Flowers and a lantern for the ceremony table
    • A bridal bouquet and matching corsage for the maid of honour

Best for: Couples inviting the whole family to the ceremony who want all guests seated with a sea view.

  • A late-afternoon ceremony

Vows exchanged when the sun is low and the light has a warm tone. We echo that mood with flowers in similar colours and more lanterns than in any other set.

    • A hoop with warm-coloured flowers on a stable base
    • Closely spaced lanterns along the aisle and beside the hoop
    • Lanterns and flowers in heavy containers beside the front rows
    • A bouquet in peach, coral and cream

Best for: Couples who want warm light in their photographs and a lantern-lit ceremony.

Ask about this set: A late-afternoon ceremony
  • Beach ceremony and indoor reception

A beach ceremony followed by dinner at a nearby venue or restaurant, in one colour palette. Some beach decorations can move to the reception after the ceremony, provided we plan this in advance.

    • A hoop and lantern-lined aisle on the beach
    • Flowers beside ceremony chairs or benches
    • Top-table and guest-table decorations at the reception venue
    • Thank-you flowers for parents: flower boxes or bouquets
    • Moving selected flowers from the beach to the venue, if agreed

Best for: Couples marrying on the beach and celebrating at a venue or restaurant close to the shore.

These sets are a starting point rather than a fixed price list: we tailor each one to your date, venue, colours and number of guests, and you can combine elements from different sets.

Ideas for a seaside wedding

  • A pier in the background, rather than right beside you

The piers in Brzeźno and Orłowo look lovely in ceremony photographs, but their entrances usually attract the most walkers. It is better to exchange vows a little further away, keeping the pier visible behind you without passers-by walking right next to the guest rows.

  • Jurata and Jastarnia: open sea or bay?

On the Hel Peninsula, you can arrange the ceremony on the open-sea side, with nothing but water to the horizon behind you, or on the Bay of Puck side, where the water is usually calmer. We choose the side with you based on photographs of the location and the ceremony time. During the season, remind guests to allow extra time for the journey to Hel.

  • A bouquet that can handle gusts

On the beach, you hold your bouquet in the wind throughout the ceremony, so we suggest a compact shape with strong-stemmed flowers rather than light, spreading branches. We replace long ribbons with shorter ones so they do not tangle in photographs.

  • A lantern-lined aisle instead of a carpet

Wind lifts the edges of a carpet or runner laid on sand, and sand quickly covers it. A route lined with lanterns and flowers in heavy containers works better on the beach. It stays in place in the wind and immediately shows guests where to walk.

  • Flowers beside the rows, not petals on the sand

Petals scattered on sand quickly blow away and then need collecting from the beach. Small arrangements beside chairs or benches work better, tied securely so they do not fall off with the first gust.

  • Guests close enough to hear the vows

Waves and wind can easily drown out words spoken without a microphone, so we position the vow area and front rows close together. For a larger guest list, ask your celebrant or musicians about sound equipment.

Wind, sand and light: what changes on a beach?

Nothing stands as firmly on sand as on a venue floor, and the seaside is rarely completely still. The hoop therefore has a heavy, stable base, arrangements are lower than indoors, and we tie fabric closely to the hoop so it does not flap in the wind. Battery-powered lanterns provide most of the light on the sand; real candles are used only in glass and only in calm weather. Before planning the decorations, it is worth asking the beach manager whether they can be set up and from what time.

Ceremony timing makes a big difference to photographs. In early afternoon, the sun is high and harsh light casts shadows on faces, so the hoop and guest rows should be positioned to avoid anyone looking straight into the sun. Closer to sunset, the light becomes warm and soft but fades quickly, so we use more lanterns for a later ceremony.

A backup plan for rain and strong wind

You know your wedding date well in advance, but seaside weather becomes clear only in the final few days. We therefore discuss a backup location when you book, alongside choosing the beach. The simplest option is your reception venue or a property right by the beach where you have agreed in advance to move the ceremony indoors if the weather turns.

A backup plan does not mean moving every beach decoration indoors. We agree beforehand which items will move, such as the hoop, aisle flowers and some lanterns, who will make the decision and by what time, so there is enough time to install everything under cover.

What determines the price of beach wedding decorations?

The main factor is the scale of the beach setup: how many flowers go on the hoop, how long the lantern-lined aisle is and how many rows of chairs or benches we decorate. The quote also takes into account your chosen flowers and whether they are in season, the backup plan involving moving some decorations indoors, and venue decorations if we are also styling the reception.

Installing decorations on the sand and collecting them after the ceremony are included in the decoration price. Ceremony flowers are yours to take, as are reception flowers if we decorate the venue too. We provide complimentary photographs and a video of the decorated beach. If you also book an additional reception attraction with us, such as an audio guestbook, the 10% discount applies to the whole order, including the beach decorations.

How we work

  1. Tell us what you are planning

The occasion, date, venue and approximate number of guests. A photo of the venue, garden or beach is very helpful.

  2. Proposal and quote

We will get back to you within 24 hours with a proposal and quote. Travel costs from Gdańsk are included in the quote from the start, so you know the full amount before booking.

  3. Refining the details

We work with you to choose colours, flowers, signs and accessories, so the set suits your venue and occasion.

  4. Decorating on site

We deliver and install the decorations before the ceremony or reception. After the wedding, we collect everything except the flowers, which are yours to keep. Installation and removal are included in the price.

Frequently asked questions

How much do beach wedding decorations cost?

We calculate the price for your chosen beach and ceremony plan, as it depends on the scale of the setup, from just a hoop to a lantern-lined aisle between guest rows, as well as flowers, season and the rain backup plan. For a quote, we need the date, ceremony time, beach and guest count. With these details, we will reply within 24 hours with a proposal and quote.

Is travel to the beach charged separately?

Yes, travel is charged separately. We set out from our studio in Gdańsk and quote travel alongside the decorations from the start, so you know the full amount before booking. For distant beaches such as Jurata or Dębki, we leave earlier to arrive before the guests.

What happens if rain is forecast for the beach wedding?

We use the backup plan: the venue or beachside property you identified when booking. You already know which decorations will move indoors, and we agree the decision deadline with you and that venue.

Can the beach decorations move to the reception venue afterwards?

Yes, if we agree this when preparing the quote. After the ceremony, we transport selected items, such as the hoop or aisle flowers, to the reception and allow time for this in the day's schedule.

How should we prepare guests for a beach ceremony?

Mention in the invitation that the ceremony will be on sand: heels sink from the first step, so flat shoes are more useful than stilettos. Chairs and benches can also sink into loose sand, so place them on a level, firmer part of the beach. Reserve seats nearest the beach entrance for older guests.

Will you help obtain permission for a beach wedding?

Yes. We will advise whom to ask for permission for a ceremony on your chosen beach and help you obtain it.

Will you help with beach wedding formalities?

We help obtain permission for the beach ceremony, while the remaining formalities are your responsibility. Our outdoor wedding guide explains how to arrange a ceremony outside the registry office and what needs doing beforehand. Once you know the location and time, we adapt the decorations to them.
