First birthday decorations in the Tricity and Pomerania

Author: Magdalena RabaWielki Dzień, a wedding decoration studio in the Tri-City

We will prepare first birthday decorations at home, in a garden or restaurant: a backdrop with the number 1 and your child’s name, balloons and table flowers, plus a cake-smash corner. We place them beyond a crawling child’s reach, whether you are celebrating in a flat in Morena or a garden in Pruszcz Gdański.

  • A backdrop, table and cake-smash corner
  • A proposal and quote within 24 hours
  • Travel from Gdańsk priced with the decoration quote
  • Tricity, Kashubia, Kociewie and the coast

Example first birthday decoration packages

Four first birthday decoration packages: two tailored to the party venue and two designed with photos in mind. We will agree on the colours, the name on the sign and the size of the decorations together, with your flat, garden or venue in mind.

  • A first birthday at home

For a party in the living room or garden, where the decorations should create a lovely atmosphere while leaving your child room to play.

    • A balloon garland above the table or sofa
    • Table flowers in a low, stable container
    • A wall sign with your child’s name
    • A highchair decoration with the number 1
    • A table runner and accessories in your colours

Best for: Families celebrating at home with grandparents, godparents and loved ones.

  • A first birthday in a restaurant

For a restaurant party with guests at several tables, where the decorations bring them together through one colour and theme.

    • Flowers and balloons beside the child’s table
    • Low arrangements for guests’ tables
    • Balloons at the room entrance
    • Decorations for the cake and gift table
    • A welcome board with the child’s name

Best for: Parents inviting more guests who have already booked a restaurant room.

  • A backdrop with the number 1 and a name

A first birthday balloon backdrop with a large number 1 and the child’s name, placed where guests naturally take photos.

    • A balloon backdrop in your chosen palette
    • A large number 1 beside or on the backdrop
    • The child’s name, clearly visible in photos
    • A low pouffe or blanket for your child to sit on
    • A size suited to your living room or venue

Best for: Parents who want one place for photos with their child, grandparents and siblings.

  • A cake-smash corner

A backdrop and decorations for a cake-smash session: your child’s first encounter with their own cake. You order the cake from a bakery, a photographer or you take the pictures, and we prepare the corner.

    • A small balloon or fabric backdrop in soft colours
    • A small garland and number 1 above the cake
    • A washable mat beneath the cake and child
    • Accessories matching the cake and the child’s outfit

Best for: Parents planning a cake-smash session at home, with a photographer or a phone.

These sets are a starting point rather than a fixed price list: we tailor each one to your date, venue, colours and number of guests, and you can combine elements from different sets.

First birthday ideas and colours

  • A teddy bear in warm beiges

Cream, caramel and light brown balloons, with a balloon teddy bear and name sign beside the number 1. This gentle theme suits girls and boys, and we will leave room by the backdrop for the child’s favourite soft toy.

  • Safari in green and sand

Olive green, sandy beige and a touch of mustard yellow, with large green leaves and animal motifs among the balloons. Safari works beautifully in gardens and by large windows, where the decorations’ greenery connects with the view outside.

  • Clouds in white and blue

Balloons of several sizes arranged like clouds, in white with pale blue or blush pink. Clouds work on a backdrop and above a highchair: even a small arrangement feels light and does not overwhelm the room.

  • “One” in pastels or sage

A “One” sign in pastels — mint, lavender and peach — creates a cheerful effect without being loud. A calmer version combines sage green with cream and light wood, ideal for bright, simple interiors.

  • Decorations beyond a crawling child’s reach

A one-year-old crawls or takes their first steps and grabs anything within reach. We therefore place flowers, signs and small accessories on tables or secure them higher up, leaving open floor space for play.

  • Balloons away from little hands

We hang balloons high or place them behind a table so a child cannot pull them down or tug a ribbon; photos at the backdrop are best taken with the child in your arms. Burst balloons and their pieces are not toys for young children, so it is best not to give them balloons to play with after the party.

First birthdays for girls and boys

First birthday decorations for girls most often feature blush pink, peach and lavender, sometimes with gold accents. For boys, parents usually choose blue, sage, beige and warm browns. These are useful starting points, not rules you need to follow.

You can just as easily choose colours you like or a neutral palette that looks good with all the siblings in photos. The simplest starting point is what is already in the room or venue and the outfit your child will wear for pictures. We will match the balloons, flowers and lettering to these.

Backdrop photos first, cake afterwards

A one-year-old has their own rhythm: naps, meals and a point when they have had enough of guests. It is worth timing backdrop photos for just after a nap, when your child is rested, and leaving the cake-smash session until last, as it usually calls for a bath and a clean outfit afterwards.

We place the cake-smash corner near a window in daylight, away from the food table, to make cleaning up after the cake easy. The personalised backdrop goes where grandparents and siblings can fit beside it, as this is where most family photos from the party are taken.

What affects the price of first birthday decorations

The main factors are the backdrop size, number of balloons and flowers, the personalised name sign, and whether we decorate one corner, the whole living room or a venue with several tables. The location also determines how much we need to bring and how long setup takes.

If you have a limited budget, tell us at the start: we will suggest what makes the biggest difference in photos and what you can leave out. One carefully finished area, such as a personalised backdrop or cake-smash corner, often looks better than small decorations scattered everywhere.

How we work

  1. Tell us what you are planning

The occasion, date, venue and approximate number of guests. A photo of the venue, garden or beach is very helpful.

  2. Proposal and quote

We will get back to you within 24 hours with a proposal and quote. Travel costs from Gdańsk are included in the quote from the start, so you know the full amount before booking.

  3. Refining the details

We work with you to choose colours, flowers, signs and accessories, so the set suits your venue and occasion.

  4. Decorating on site

We deliver and install the decorations before your celebration. We agree installation and collection times with you in advance and, if the party is at a venue, with its staff as well.

Frequently asked questions

How much do first birthday decorations cost?

Send us the birthday date, address and a photo of the spot for the backdrop, and we will return with a proposal and quote within 24 hours. The price depends mainly on the backdrop size, balloons and flowers, personalised lettering, and whether we decorate a corner, living room or restaurant room.

Do you charge for travel?

Yes, travel is charged separately. We travel from our Gdańsk studio, including for first birthdays at grandparents’ homes in Kashubia or Kociewie, and include the travel cost in the offer alongside the decoration quote. You know the full amount before booking.

Will a first birthday balloon backdrop fit in a flat?

Yes, we will adapt it to the space you have, for example with a narrower version beside the sofa or in a corner. Tell us roughly how much free wall space there is, and we will suggest a size that leaves your child room to play.

Will you also provide the cake and photography for a cake-smash session?

No, we provide the decorations for the corner: a backdrop, balloons, the number 1 and a mat under the cake. Your bakery supplies the cake, and a photographer you book or you with your phone take the pictures.

Can we order just the backdrop or just the cake-smash corner?

Yes, you can order only a personalised backdrop or only the cake-smash corner and prepare the rest yourself. We will then choose colours to match what you already have at home.

How far ahead should we book first birthday decorations?

First birthdays are usually celebrated at weekends, so it is best to write as soon as you know the date and venue. Get in touch even at short notice: we will check availability and suggest a package we can prepare in time.
